On arithmetic progressions in finite fields

چکیده

In this paper, we explore the existence of m-term arithmetic progressions in $${\mathbb {F}}_{q^n}$$ with a given common difference whose terms are all primitive elements, and at least one them is normal. We obtain asymptotic results for $$m \ge 4$$ concrete \in \{2,3\}$$ , where complete list exceptions when belongs to {F}}_{q}$$ obtained. The proofs combine character sums, sieve estimates computational arguments using software SageMath.

Given two sets A,B ⊆ IFq of elements of the finite field IFq of q elements, we show that the productset AB = {ab | a ∈ A, b ∈ B} contains an arithmetic progression of length k ≥ 3 provided that k < p, where p is the characteristic of IFq, and #A#B ≥ 3q 2d−2/k. We prove that if A is a subset of at least cn elements of {1, . . . ,n}, where c is a sufficiently large constant, then the collection of subset sums of A contains an arithmetic progression of length n.
